My reclassification went through! Now I'm rich! I'm even making more than first-year teachers in my area, even if they have a masters degree! After only seventeen years of state service!

I'm 12.5% richer than last year. And 7.1% richer than I was going to be anyway from my raise that was already approved. So it's like I've already gotten my raise for next year and my raise for the year after that, since raises around here tend to be about 3%, when there's money for one.

My boss is all excited that they're paying me significantly more than the minimum, but he's forgetting about benefit replacement pay. Actually I am getting paid $5.57/month more than the minimum for my new job title. Yea for rounding up!

Feel free to tell me about how you get 10% raises all the time. And bonuses. And stock options. I like other people's good news.

Some of my extra money is going toward increasing my budgets for charity (to keep the percentage constant) and toward expenses (to keep up with inflation), and the rest is going toward my early retirement fund. Sorry to disappoint you--no yachts or anything.

It's true, some places don't review as frequently as they should. It just seems like our review process is so LONG! By the time I have my meeting with my boss I've forgotten what I wrote, what happened all year, etc. I end up sort of slack-jawed during my review ("duh, last year, um...I'm pretty sure I worked here...").

I've been pretty lucky myself: almost all of my "real" (i.e., not part-time or temp) jobs were very conscientious about reviews. Some jobs even reviewed 2x per year, although only one would involve money.

You're lucky to have a boss that would go out on a limb for you! Clearly he values you. Enjoy it!
