I'm Rich Now
Sep. 8th, 2005 07:18 amMy reclassification went through! Now I'm rich! I'm even making more than first-year teachers in my area, even if they have a masters degree! After only seventeen years of state service!
I'm 12.5% richer than last year. And 7.1% richer than I was going to be anyway from my raise that was already approved. So it's like I've already gotten my raise for next year and my raise for the year after that, since raises around here tend to be about 3%, when there's money for one.
My boss is all excited that they're paying me significantly more than the minimum, but he's forgetting about benefit replacement pay. Actually I am getting paid $5.57/month more than the minimum for my new job title. Yea for rounding up!
Feel free to tell me about how you get 10% raises all the time. And bonuses. And stock options. I like other people's good news.
Some of my extra money is going toward increasing my budgets for charity (to keep the percentage constant) and toward expenses (to keep up with inflation), and the rest is going toward my early retirement fund. Sorry to disappoint you--no yachts or anything.

on 2005-09-09 02:56 pm (UTC)Actually, I finally figured out you're Patrick's best friend Laurie. Cool. (I'm a little slow.)
That review process of yours is incredible. I guess we fill out reviews immediately before meetings in March or so, then a decision is made mid-summer for raises that go into effect in September. They try to make the decision early enough for us to make appropriate insurance decisions (due two months before the first paycheck where they will go into effect. Hmm, I guess my process isn't much better.
At least we both get reviews. In some places, you have to beg them. "May I have my annual review please? It's been a year and a half."
This reclassification thing is a whole different thing. Something that most people around here assume or claim is impossible.

on 2005-09-09 07:18 pm (UTC)I've been pretty lucky myself: almost all of my "real" (i.e., not part-time or temp) jobs were very conscientious about reviews. Some jobs even reviewed 2x per year, although only one would involve money.
You're lucky to have a boss that would go out on a limb for you! Clearly he values you. Enjoy it!
