Sunrise at the Beach

livingdebThis morning I woke up in time to see the sunrise out my window. It was nothing special. I went back to bed.
Then I decided to take a little hike along the beach. It was high tide, so you couldn’t even see the sand, but there was a nice sidewalk with metered parallel parking above the beach, so I walked along that.
Many of the rental houses facing the beach had glassed-in porches across the entire front of the house. The smaller ones had a row of rocking chairs inside. The bigger ones had an entire living room/dining room ensemble.
Many of the vacation houses had names like Grand View, Buena Vista, Nirvana by the Sea, and Boon Vu.
Boon is a small, rocky island of little interest to humans except when they are smashing their ships into it. The first time this happened, the crew survived on fish and bird eggs until they were rescued a month later. Another time this happened, the survivors turned to cannibalism before they were rescued a month later. Because of the latter incident, a barrel of nonperishable food has been placed at the high point of the island. I love that.
At the beginning of my walk at 6 a.m., I was about the only person out there. By the time I was coming back there were several people walking along the beach like I was. For those of you designing sidewalks that will be used by several people at once, I recommend making them wide enough for people to pass each other. Whenever I approached someone, I would hop off the side walk into the empty parking spaces as we passed. (Their side of the sidewalk was edged by a rocky drop-off, so it seemed only fair.)
By the time I returned at around 7:30, the previously half-full parking lot at my motel was mostly empty.
I took lots of pictures. My camera is still creeped out that I used up the whole battery. It kept turning itself off until it didn’t have enough power left to turn itself off. It’s been plugged into a (working) wall socket now for over 45 minutes and I still can’t do anything with it. It’s time to go though.
Here’s a new diet plan. Wake up long before anything is open. Drive along a highway that has nothing but trees.
