Decisions

After a second day of scoring teacher certifications, I have happily confirmed my decision to never do that again.

I'm going to write a letter to the personnel lady telling her this and telling her at least one reason (they should pay much more). I'm still trying to decide whether I should tell her other reasons (and if so, which ones), or say that I'll explain more if she wants or just leave it at that.

This is reminding me of the time I dropped a class in college. They made me get the professor's signature. I expected the professor to be sad or insulted that I was dropping the class and thought he might try to talk me out of it. Nope, he just took the paper and signed it and gave it back. Maybe the personnel lady feels the same way.

In an upcoming election we have two bizarre controversial propositions to change our city charter, and I'm having trouble getting at what they are.

Proposition 1 is either a great way to open government records and communications so that backdoor deals won't get made without the public knowing OR it is a huge waste of millions of dollars that will keep the city from being able to afford to provide actual services.

Proposition 2 is either a good way to increase our protection of one of our fragile watersheds OR a huge bureaucratic nightmare that will just increase the number of times the city gets sued and increase how much the state legislature hates our city.

Of course the League of Women Voters is no good with this sort of problem; they just list list arguments from both sides. So I went to the Austin Chronicle which tends to be extremely left-wing and hippie like (thus inclined to vote for both of these causes) but also rational (thus disinclined to endorse idiotic ideas).

Well, their endorsements are both no, but for the first time I've ever noticed, both endorsements are presented with an equally long dissent. That is not making things easy.

Journal entry of the day: Kismet's Self-induced Economic Crisis - "Oh man. I spent all my food money on dance lessons again." Get a big glimpse into another lifestyle. It's a fun read-aloud entry.
