The bugs I found in the system today were so bad they derailed five staff members, not counting the programmer, for hours.

It's easier to be cheerful when things are so obviously out of control. "How are you doing?" asks my boss. "Oh, fine. Just a little disgruntled." And then I chuckle.

Our newish VP of student affairs likes Susan Scott's book Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work and in Life, One Conversation at a Time. He likes it so much that he's given copies out to many of the people he works with, including my boss. I am now borrowing it (as of 5:00 today), and all of student affairs staff are invited to a (huge) meeting tomorrow morning (with breakfast) to talk about this same topic.

I've only read 52/287 pages = 18% of the book so far.

Bad things so far: 1) This is another one of those leadership books, and I'd rather be a follower. (The leadership bias does seem to be slight, at least.) 2) I understand that how you interact is just as important as how you do your job, but this book addresses only the interaction, as if that's all that matters (shiver).

Good things so far: 1) I learned a fun new euphemism for firing someone: making them available to industry. 2) I'm not as good at interacting with people as I am at doing my job, so this could be good.

In other news, I felt much better than last week in Body Flow (no headache), but that routine is killer. Fortunately I remembered the peanut butter. (Hee, hee, this sentence would make no sense to most people if they have read only this entry of mine.)

I can't tell if I feel less stressed after that class than usual. I am reading, but reading is fun as well as productive. And I have gotten up in the middle to do laundry, but I just started up again on keeping track of things like glasses of water and taking breaks.

I'm going to go read some more.
