Endurance Training
Nov. 5th, 2004 09:14 amI recently decided to train for a 10K (one of the ones in the spring) because my endurance has really plummeted.
This morning I jogged for 3 minutes! By "minute" I mean 120 steps, so it's just an estimate, and probably a high one.
I often jog part of the way to the bus stop in the morning because I'm late, but this morning I wasn't late, so I think I went more slowly, which allowed me to jog the whole way to the bus stop. When I was late I would jog about 2 minutes (as defined above; based on where I remember petering out).
Even just jogging two or three minutes is plenty to get quite winded and I easily spend several minutes cooling down afterwards (i.e., pacing at the bus stop when the bus isn't there yet). Today, the whole mini-workout felt pretty good. Three minutes of slow jogging followed by five minutes of pacing: I recommend it.
Interestingly, later this morning I found Health Tip: Jogging for Newbies. Surprisingly, it recommends doing my cute little two-minute jog followed by five minutes of pacing, but then doing another two-minute jog [followed by another five minutes of pacing, I think]. Hmm, that could be possible.
