Site of the Day - How Not To Be Poor by Walter Williams - The author summarizes how not to avoid poverty in four basic steps. Want to guess what they are? He says: "Avoiding long-term poverty is not rocket science. First, graduate from high school. Second, get married before you have children, and stay married. Third, work at any kind of job, even one that starts out paying the minimum wage. And, finally, avoid engaging in criminal behavior."
He didn't mention avoiding expensive injuries and illnesses (one of the main causes of bankruptcy), hanging around people who inspire you rather than suck away all your energy and resources, and spending less than you earn. He also gets a bit preachy and race-specific by the end, but it's an interesting issue.
