Today we got to play our new game "Betrayal at House on the Hill," an Avalon Hill game that is quick to learn. A worker at Dragon's Lair said this was his favorite game from last year and he still plays it and recommends it.

It's hardly the best game I've ever played, but it's quite fun. It's set in a haunted house, which is a bit different every time you play. For the first part of the game, everyone is exploring the house and trying to build up their character's strengths. Then one player turns traitor and one of fifty plotlines comes into play, all setting the traitor against the others (the heroes).

The game has lots of cool things: cards that give you powers and that make things happen, cool depictions of rooms in a huge mansion, and it really is different every time you play it. However, it doesn't have good instructions, but we will be rectifying this with information available online.

The game requires three to six players, and we had only two, but that didn't stop us. We each played two characters (simulating four players) until one character turned traitor. At that time we'd have the person playing the traitor stop playing the other character (now simulating three players). See, the heroes and traitor get different information and the heroes have to cooperate, so you can't have one person playing both a traitor and a hero.

This will definitely be good to play sometime with six players.

Entries of the Day: Today's theme is laughing at other people's problems. Check out "A Man and His Hair" from Seventh Magpie and learn (the easy way) lessons about getting haircuts. "Then she stood back, cocked her head to one side, then picked up her scissors and said, 'Okay, well, let's see what happens.'"

Then, especially if you're sick, check out "Fever Games" from Background Noise. Read about the antics of a cold-ridden family, especially games the toddler is creating such as "Puzzle Concussion": "This one is simple. You just walk around holding a wooden puzzle base out in front of you and every few minutes stop, tap the base against your forehead until there's a solid thump and then smile and keep walking." (Warning: this entry contains overmuch boogers.)
