So I got the news on my replacement in my old job as of two months after my last day. "So there is no new flags person right now. Womp womp. She quit after a couple of days. ... They have reposted the position as a 40 hour position in hopes to get more applicants but we’ll see."

Ugh, you can just never give too much notice.

And ugh, once again I am being replaced with a person who gets more. In Zoology, I was replaced with 1.5 people, both with a higher job title. In the Registrar's Office I was replaced with 2 people, both with my hard-earned high job title, plus the new system was designed to remove a few of my old job duties. And now my old 30-hour job is turning into a 40-hour job, even though some of the job duties have been handed off to another person.

I don't normally feel like a sucker. But apparently as an employee I am one. Well, those days are over. Mwahaha!

Blog post of the day - Eco Cat Lady's O is for Oops - "Face it, screwing up is not something that our society generally rewards. But somehow "oops" manages to transcend the rule-based morality of our Calvinist fore-bearers, taking human fallibility out of the realm of wrongdoing, and giving it a decidedly endearing twist." Besides good writing, you also get pictures, a story, and a comedy routine + song video.

I was pissed when I learned that the new girl at my company, who was hired to take some of my load because my job had grown to include so much, was getting paid 20% more than me for doing 1/3 the work, despite my 7 years with the company. I was told that "Times have changed. This is what it costs now to bring in a good E.A." Of course, I was laid off a month later. But the joke was on them--the new girl was not trained on any of the HR stuff (as that wasn't supposed to be part of her job), so she quit within a month of being thrown into the deep end. I think they tried one more girl to do my job, which also didn't work out, so now the owners have to do it all again. Meanwhile, I'm very happily employed at a job that I love. Sure, I make diddly-squat and have no benefits, but who cares if you love what you do?!

Ugh on the first part. Companies pay what we let them. Even threatening to leave doesn't always work because they don't realize until later what it's going to take to replace you.

I'm glad you can afford to do work you love now!!

Oh man... I can totally relate to this. When I quit my job at the music school they hired a kid at the same salary but with only half of the job responsibilities. Oh well... suckers R Us I guess.

Anyhow, thanks so much for the shout out, and glad you liked the post.

Half the job responsibilities? What happened with the other half?

They hired an IT company, and paid them $250K - which I had tried for years to convince them that they needed to do. Guess there was no incentive when I was always there picking up the slack. Grrrr...
