Victorian Bathing Machine
Oct. 24th, 2004 11:39 amI got to see a picture of a "bathing machine" from Victorian times. It's a cart with a closed box on top. The bather enters the cart, closes the door, and changes into a bathing costume in complete privacy. Then some guys pull the cart out into the water (a river? lake?), grabbing onto some ropes that are tied to the cart. Then they go back to shore. Now the bather can open the door and float out into the water without anyone seeing. After a bit of a swim, the bather re-enters the cart and closes the door. The guys pull the cart back to shore. The bather changes back into proper clothes in the secrecy of the cart and emerges clean and dry.
