Racism Alive and Kicking

livingdebToday I went to a conference for academic advisers.
One of the sessions was on racism. I started writing a long thing about how this affected me but it just sounds stupid. Let's just say that even the milder varieties of racism that are common today (and thus do not involve lynching or physical exclusion) are still horribly hurtful to people.
Nanowrimo Update
Today I added 2000 words in three hours. I'm 1500 words ahead of schedule, which is almost a whole day. This is good because there are several days ahead without much time for writing.
I had an aborted scene. I had a string of scenes stemming from a problem a friend of mine helped me work through. Still not enough words.
So I decided to use the technique of dealing with my own issues within my novel. My academic adviser character just had a similar day, with a few changes because she's a people person in a way that I'm not. Yes, much of what I tried to write for my journal entry ended up in my novel.
