Today I went with friends to the Capital Confectioners’ 8th Annual Sugar Art Show & Cake Competition That Takes the Cake. This year's theme was Cake-a-lot: Knights of the Turn Table.

There were a lot of cakes. There were so many cakes, I got jaded. But I decided that whenever I was thinking, "Ho hum, another cake," I would take a picture anyway. I would only refrain if I actually didn't enjoy the cake.

I can tell by looking at Robin's pictures that I failed in this goal. I definitely missed pictures of some amazing cakes. Not only that, I missed seeing an entire section of the show. Grr.

Still, I have an intimidating number of pictures.

Fortunately, I also came up with a plan I like on how to show these to you: Instead of inundating you with millions of cakes or trying to pick out only the best ones, I am going to add a cake picture to the bottom of journal entries that don't have pictures until I run out. Then each cake will get the attention it deserves. They will all have the tag "decorated cake" if, for some reason, you want to inundate yourself with cake pictures next year.

Generally, I will just show you the cakes in the (reverse of the) order in which I took the pictures. Occasionally, I will go out of order if one cake seems particularly appropriate. As I am doing today.

So, for today's viewing pleasure, I present this work, introducing the theme:

On this one I can actually see the magic. I can tell it's decorated with fondant, which is a substance you can roll out like pasta and shape like clay. I could imagine actually making this myself, although I never would go through this much trouble (or ask my friends to eat fondant). This belief that I can see the magic is not true for most of the cakes, so prepare yourselves.

I don't know. I looked on the map, and I didn't see any place we didn't go to. He took pictures of almost every cake, though, so we didn't totally miss them. He'll be putting them on Facebook soon.

Robin's pictures are up now. Although he was very restrained, you can still see quite a few of the missing cakes. If you recognize them all, then only I managed to miss that section!
