Decluttering the Hot Chocolate

It's not always pleasant
But I promised I would
This is the year to declutter.
The pantry is holding
Too many cans
Of a thing that I love but don't need.
So little by little
I'm using it up
And clearing some space for more feed.
Sometimes it's hard
But it's in the cards,
This is the year to declutter.
Fine gifts they once were,
The Godiva hot chocolate,
The chocolaty-est hot chocolate ever.
What is the secret?
Use too many scoops.
Four tablespoons per serving of bever-
age.
Oh, it's not always easy,
It's not always nice,
But this is the year to declutter.
Now that I know,
I can make my own
With half cocoa, half sugar, and milk.
It's just as dark,
It's just as tasty,
And just as warm under a quilt.
Sometimes you've just
Got to man up
'Cause this is the year to declutter.
I was holding out
for side-by-side taste tests
With help from my little sister
But with a curious baby
It never happened,
And now she lives too far distant.
I might rather write
A poorly rhymed (and metered) poem,
But this is the year to declutter.
It's time to decide
That no taste tests are needed.
I'm pleased with my own recipe
There are too many cans
I don't really need,
And I've resolved to accomplish this duty.
A man's got to do
What a man's got to do
'Cause this is the year to declutter.
P.S. Turns out I can write a poorly rhymed, poorly metered poem and drink hot chocolate at the same time. Because I'm all efficient like that. Oh, yes.

on 2011-01-15 05:18 am (UTC)I think not. I can't imagine helping other people organize their stuff--I don't know them! Not as well as they know themselves. And people's stuff is so personal!
And on the other end, when Robin's dad was downsizing to move into a much smaller place, I was amazed at how much stuff he was willing to get rid of and at how patient he was with his kids telling him to get rid of things. I am not like that. I am a grown-up, so I get to keep my stuff if I want to. Basically, I think I would just go devil's advocate and explain why I needed to keep every little thing.
My pantry is actually pretty well organized. It's just fun to say that I'm having hot chocolate for the good of the household.
It's my fun stuff that's a mess--papers, craft supplies, too many books, other hobby supplies, decorative stuff.
Nice offer, though. I wonder if one of my other readers will want to take you up on it.
