The exploding oil well felt kind of personal because I'd just seen Lars von Trier's "Breaking the Waves" (1996). I'm not sure I recommend this twisted movie, but it does involve some characters working on an oil well in the ocean and their families left behind on dry land. The workers are always very careful, but sometimes accidents do happen.

The exploding Icelandic volcano felt kind of personal because indigo rose ended up stranded in Poland as a result.

Video of the Day

At least two of my readers have already seen this, but it's just way cool. If you like Murphy beds, this is your thing:

Video of the Decade

This one is for the benefit of my reader who just stepped out of a cave and may not have seen this yet. Weird Al's "White and Nerdy" presses lots of my happy buttons: cheery optimism, nerd subculture, culture mixing, a reverse stereotype, a really catchy and danceable tune, and good rhymes. Plus there are fun cameos by Seth Green and especially Donny Osmond, cheerfully making fun of themselves.

Thanks for sharing the vids! I'll have to show T the Domestic Transformer, and I love me some Weird Al. We have tickets to Alamo's UHF screening in May, with Weird Al hosting. I'm totally geeking out over it!--texpenguin
