I'm thinking of writing a nonfiction book.

When you read that sentence, if you thought to yourself, "I know just what kind of book Debbie should write," please let me know in the comments.

Meanwhile, I have three ideas already.

I'm not sure this would be a saleable book, but what came to mind was that you should write a book about inexpensive hobbies. Specifically, I mean, how to get started with cooking/ballroom dancing/something with paper?/arts? Sort of an idea book for bored adults.

Hmm, that idea is not grabbing me right off. My first thought is to have only one line that says find an informal class. Or a library. But actual clear instructions--that would be a fun book to have. I'm not feeling like the one to write it, but I'll add this to my list of ideas anyway, just in case.

I like the idea. The problem with the typical "find an informal class" advice is that many people have time they could use toward a hobby but do not have the regularity of free time to commit to a class that meets more than once, don't find the social aspects of a class desirable, or have done the informal class thing but don't know where to go from there. An informal class seems like a good way to get a sense of whether you are actually interested in the hobby but doesn't provide much real guidance. I expect writing a book like this one would involve interviewing a lot of people, though.
