This evening Robin and I watched "The Aviator," the latest big movie on Howard Hughes.

The plot had the same problem a lot of these biographical movies have: they pretend they are showing you just a few years, but then they want to stuff events from the entire lifetime into those few years.

Sadly, they seemed to pick and choose mostly negative things. We see him take big expensive risks and we see some of his failures. We only know he's rich because they keep saying it. He paid for all kinds of projects with his own money, then suddenly it was partly government money. I really hate that.

The best part of the movie is that afterwards Robin started Googling Howard Hughes and telling me other interesting things from his life. Like the time the CIA got him to find a sunken Russian sub during wartime, and the story only became public when someone robbed his hotel room and got a diary.

Another good part of the movie was the Katherine Hepburn character. She's the only character I knew anything about before seeing the movie, and it really did seem recognizably like her.
