I got some new shoes over the weekend. I tried out one pair yesterday and one today. They're not as comfortable as I had hoped. A bit tight in spots. But they're leather, so maybe they'll change shape before I do?

But I think the main problem is that the soles are so thick. They don't bend as easily as I'd like--they remind me of some boots I once wore with lots of support. I don't generally like lots of support because that means that the shoe doesn't move when my foot moves, so the edges of the shoe is going to rub my skin raw. Is it really so horribly dangerous to have bendable feet and ankles?

And they're just plain heavy. When I changed into my sneakers at the gym today, it was like I was suddenly walking on clouds. I felt bouncier, like gravity had weakened. I'm talking about that feeling you get when you remove roller skates and float around in your socks for several minutes afterwards.

Then walking home with my gym bag over my arm, the bag was definitely heavier than usual.

So, now I guess I have a way to sneak extra exercise in at work. I can just wear these heavy shoes around, and no one will know because they look like ordinary shoes. But I will be surreptitiously burning extra calories at the workplace, right under all their noses. I will be getting paid to burn calories! Well, one calorie anyway.

(Not tomorrow though; time to give the feet a break.)
