When Vacations Go Bad
Oct. 10th, 2005 10:33 amAt the party I attended Saturday, I got to hear someone explain why his last vacation was so terrible. His mother was stuck on one topic, the same topic she's been on her soapbox about for years. Now she's even more extreme, actively proselytizing against this perceived evil. This was boring and insulting, both because the other family members have nothing to do with this so-called evil, and because they don't find it evil.
Then the guy got back to work and of course the whole place had fallen apart in his absence.
So then someone suggested that next time he has a family visit, he should pretend to be taken over by some other evil, perhaps a drug addiction, and then at least they can have a new topic of conversation around the house.
But then someone said that she might have him thrown in the nuthouse.
But then someone pointed out that his co-workers can't live without him and would of course come to the rescue. He'd already talked about one guy who could sweet-talk his way into getting anything they needed.
Sadly, this plot is much, much better than the idea I have for the novel I want to start writing next month. (I don't think it's a novel I could write, though.)
