It all starts when I hear a strange metallic pinging sound over the stove.

A chilling shadow falls over the land: at six pm, it's barely 90 degrees. The sidewalk darkens. The street begins to glisten.

A puddle of clear liquid forms at the end of the driveway. The rain barrel shifts from emptiness to one-quarter full.

It is over as quickly as it begins. The sun glares, the earth steams.

The unfamiliar aura had passed. I have the feeling that whatever it was, it was a good thing.

No evidence that it actually fell at my house, but we walked out of a restaurant last night and stood there staring up.

It has been so long! It was a silvery clear liquid miracle!

Nice.

In my previous apt., I would get excited when I heard a water pinging sound, but eventually determined that it was always the neighbor's shower and never rain.

We've had rain yesterday and today. It is now even more insanely green out there.

When I was visiting the Smoky Mountains (sort of near you), I came with an idea for tourist commercials that I liked: Show someone talking about something amazing to them (which is quite ordinary to people who live there), and have a subtitle showing where they're from.

And my first idea was, "Wow, everything's so green here!" subtitled, "People from Texas."
