I don't like the cold, but 103 in June is a bit much. If you're thinking, yeah, yeah, whatever, it's not like you're in Houston with 90% humidity, you're right. But if you're thinking it was probably that hot for just for a few minutes, and at night it cools off and I can open all my windows, turn on the fans, and get cool: last night's low was 82. That's right, it never dropped below 80 degrees.

The other day, the breeze was so hot it didn't even feel good. It felt more like bus exhaust than a refreshing breeze--yeah, air is rushing by, but no thanks, I'm not really interested in that particular air.

Basically, it's generally uncomfortably hot or dark or both, except when it's deathly hot. When, exactly, am I supposed to go jogging? At least there's a lot of shade in the early morning and late evenings.

I like it being too hot for a little while; it helps me appreciate autumn. But having crazy heat for the entire month of August, like we usually have, is really plenty. That totally works for me, even though I used to dread fall because it meant winter was all too near. Three months of crazy heat? Arg!

We Northerners can't even imagine such a thing, especially this month. It's been low to mid 60s and rainy for almost the whole month. Saw a stat on the weather last night that it has been sunny for only five days this month. I disbelieve that it's even been that much! I feel like someone snuck up on us and moved the Northeast to the Northwest.

Anyway, I sympathize. I do not think I could handle 90+ days of 90 degrees!

Re: jogging. Gym on treadmill? I know it's not ideal, but...

I was just noticing (from Patrick's entry today) that clearly you guys are in a whole different part of the world. I wouldn't like that weather, either, though.

Actually, 90+ days of 90-degree weather is fine (to me). We normally have highs of 95 and lows of 75 through June and July and only have highs of 99 and lows of 79 through August.

I really don't like treadmills, though with a good book or movie they'd be okay. Gyms are pricy and I no longer belong to one. I know what to do: Drink plenty of water, wear a hat if it's sunny to keep my brain from frying or a bandana if it's not to keep sweat from dripping into my eyes, wear small clothing (shorts, t-shirt, short socks) (I do like t-shirts better than tank tops because I can wipe the sweat off with my sleeve), have a long cool down, including after I get inside with the AC, pacing around in the living room near the AC blower and under the fan. But it's much easier to get some good running in with cooler weather. That should be a goal: be in shape enough to actually be able to run faster by the time it's more fun to run faster.

Yeah, I checked the weather last night at 10:30 and it was still 95 degrees. No wonder walking around had felt so hot. It's sort of hard for me to square that kind of temperature with total darkness.

It gets worse. Around 6 tonight, San Antonio had a trace of rain fall. It cooled temperatures to 95. In the rain. I think the rain gauge at Camp Mabry melted - it registered 0.11 inches of rain today, from clear skies, when the temperature was 104 degrees.

Funny--Robin said it had cooled down by the end of the walk and felt much better.
