What the Hail?
Mar. 26th, 2009 06:58 pmStories about hail abounded today. I would say at least 5% of my workmates suffered damage:
D's garage was still full of stuff from when he re-did his carpet and stuff over spring break, so he drove to the local covered parking garage but didn't quite make it in time.
Two folks found cover in a car wash.
E. watched helplessly from inside her house as her car was damaged.
R, who just started with us this Monday, had smashed-in car windows, large dents everywhere, and structural damage. If it's drivable, she may bring it to Houston for repairs. There will be fewer people to compete against there. (And prices may be lower.)
S saw a hailstone break his skylight from outside. He ran inside expecting to find water pouring in through the ceiling, but there was a second pane of glass that was still intact.
Several people saw the hail hitting at a 45-degree angle or worse.
I decided we should have a hailstorm survival celebration at work. We could have cake. My boss said the cake should say, "What the Hail?" I said it should have golf balls, maybe in little cupcake holders.
I also heard a few stories outside of work. R drove through cute little hailstones on his way to supper with S. llcoolvad, visiting my town for a week to escape the depressing weather up north described huge and scary damage to her rental car in a comment to my last entry. Raaga123 had some excitement and chikuru provides a picture.
I didn't hear stories of anyone being outside (not in a car) during the storm. Being in a car as it's being destroyed sounds scary enough.
