Thoughts on Transportation
Sep. 23rd, 2008 11:35 pm1. Of course we're going to get to Oklahoma by driving. (Flying sucks, it's only a ten hour drive, we can meet some friends of Robin's for lunch halfway there and again halfway back, plus we're going to go to Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Stillwater, so we'll need a car when we get there.)
2. The AC on my car doesn't work, and Robin's transmission is acting weird (though not when it's at the shop) plus his gas mileage is very mediocre, so maybe we should rent a car.
3. Renting a car will cost at least $300. Why didn't I fix my AC earlier? I'm always putting things off. But the last shop just put in new freon when my car is too old for the current freon to even work and so it just all leaked out after a month and how do I find a new shop and when I do, how do I get there when places are only open during work hours, and wah wah wah.
4. Maybe there's still time to fix my AC before the trip. And a $300 savings will cover some risk.
So, I brought it into another shop after my dental appointment. Their story is that a hose is leaking and should be replaced, but the AC has already been rebuilt to accept the new freon. He thought he might finish today, and although he didn't, this certainly implies it will be finished by Friday. I asked him to do a general check-up of the car, too. I'll take an hour of vacation to leave early to pick it up (or I could work through lunch but I won't).
Yea! Happy ending! (Probably.)
