Yesterday we had a little adventure on the way to Dallas.

Tire is not quite right

Or check out this view:

Superfluous lump

A blow-out waiting (not much longer/politely) to happen. Though adrenaline-producing, it was actually a rather mild emergency.

We had a spare, had the tools, there was just one little problem. Whoever modified the truck had blocked access to the spare tire. So some very nice and macho guys at a shop for tires for real trucks drilled a hole with their very nice and macho drill bits.

Access lost and regained

They helped us in all kinds of ways to change the tire, finishing up with directions to a nearby branch of the store the tire came from where we got a replacement tire of the same grade under warranty. Then we called my parents with an adjusted time of arrival, which was still a perfectly fine time to be arriving.

And we all lived happily every after.

Yeaaaa for macho guys

Even more yea for macho tools to help you on your way. I am always impressed by the kindness of strangers. When I had an old AMC pacer for the first year (I was in college) I had it, all four tires managed to go flat on me. I don't think I had to change a single one by myself. Someone always stopped to help and I remember one truck driver who just wouldn't let me do anything at all. By that time it was the fourth tire and I really knew how to change them.
