I'm Turning Up the Heat in Here

I was hoping I'd get used to the cold this winter because in winter it's cold outside, it's cold in the house and it's cold in my office. But no. I just sit around tensing muscles as if that will warm me up and then relaxing because those muscles ache.

Your office is cold? Bummer. My ofice is pretty warm most of the time in the winter.

However, I find that the older I get the less I can deal with the cold. And I'm only 43!

At this rate I'll need to live in Death Valley by the time I'm 65.

I have this big vent in my office that slowly oozes chilled air. I had hoped that in the winter it would slowly ooze heated air, but no. I don't really understand what it's attached to.

Maybe it's not getting older that's the problem but getting more control over your surroundings. You get to have heat and warm sweaters and don't have to walk to school in the snow or dodge snowballs from bullies anymore. So maybe you're done getting less able to deal with the cold.

The secret to not freezing at your desk is to move around a lot. I worked with one woman who would go outside for a walk from one end of the building to the other instead of walking on the inside. She said that it helps a lot. It means that your body will acknowledge the relative warmth when you come inside.

Ah, so the key to not freezing at my desk is to not be at my desk. Excellent solution. Yet another reason to retire early.

I actually do take a run up and down some stairs every time I take a bathroom break, and I try to walk a bit outside during lunch. These warm me up because of my movement, though.

I haven't tried any short outside breaks, though. Interesting.
