Carpet the world!

The first few days on the cruise, the metal edges on the stair steps made it hard for me to go up and down the stairs comfortably because they hurt the bottoms of my feet a little.
After a few days, though, my feet didn't hurt anymore. I attributed it to getting to wear sneakers every day.
The bottoms of my feet often kind of hurt. I was wondering why when I learned that as people age, sometimes they lose some of the padding on the bottoms of their feet. Hey, I was still using that! I was hoping that maybe if I lose my extra weight that I wouldn't have that problem anymore.
Now that it's been a week since the cruise, the bottoms of my feet hurt sometimes again. This morning I decided that the secret of the cruise was carpeting. Almost the entire ship was carpeted (at least the parts that were open to the public). All I have to do is get the city and the university to carpet all of their sidewalks! I wonder if astroturf would work.
Failing that, I could glue carpeting (and carpet padding) to the bottoms of my shoes; then there would be carpeting with me everywhere I went.
Actually, I've had good luck with foam shoe inserts except that I wear through them pretty quickly. I think I'll try those silicone ones and see if they work as well as the foam ones and if they last longer.
