Stocking Up
Nov. 4th, 2007 10:23 pmI'm afraid we spent our extra hour today sleeping.
No Texas Book Festival for me this year. I am putting it on my list for next year, though. At the very least, I'll wander around randomly and see if I discover a new favorite author. Then I can give back to my friends who have been recommending fabulous things to me.
We met up with a friend for brunch.
Then Robin found various things at the Settlement Home Garage Sale, which he describes as having things that are older but nicer than you normally find at Goodwill. He found this for both clothing and books. His best find was a tux for $10. Awesome!! It will cost him more for the tie, suspenders, and dry cleaning/hemming (each) than for the tux.
Then we caught up on some household stuff. I'm happy to see that I've finally paid myself back all the money I've borrowed from myself for various things. Which means I can afford to make my charitable contributions for this year without dipping into any of my savings that are for me. (And it is a pleasure to yank money out of my savings account after the interest rates have dropped.) And my employer just finished up their big charitable campaign, so I have all the data they have collected for their booklet of charities (pdf). I'll look through that to see if I get any new ideas for this year and then take care of that.
Then we used our $5 Bed Bath and Beyond coupon on a bathroom scale to replace the scale we were using at the gym which we no longer visit.
We checked around a few other stores, too. Then used our 50%-off-one-item coupon at Half Priced Books. Mmm, cookbooks. Then grocery shopping.
We should have enough stuff to last us through the winter now.
