Special Chicken Fajitas
Sep. 17th, 2007 10:39 pmI finally went for the HEB weekly special today.
They always have a special where if you buy one or two really expensive things, you can get a whole bunch of really cheap things that go with it for free. Normally I either don't like the expensive thing or I don't like any of the free things, or the expensive thing looks yummy, but it's just way too expensive and I only barely like the cheap things.
But this week I bought pre-cooked chicken thigh fajita strips ($6.48) (too pricey, but they look yummy).
In return, I got every one of the free things:
* store brand shredded cheddar ($1.78) (even though normally I eat sharper stuff and grate it myself)
* store brand light sour cream ($0.84) (even though normally I get bigger containers which are available in a fat-free version)
* brand name diced tomatoes ($0.87) (even though normally I get the cheaper store brand)
* brand name fat-free refried beans ($0.57) (which I used to get until I discovered La Sierra refried black beans which are yummier and have more fiber)
* tiny container of store brand salsa (0.99) which Robin may like
* big bottle of store-brand soda ($0.99) which I don't want but which I gave my sister; I decided root beer would be safe. (She agreed. "Root beer floats!")
I added some whole-wheat tortillas ($1.36) and I already have some mild salsa I like; I'll be having fajitas for supper this week.

on 2007-09-20 01:21 am (UTC)On the other hand, that chicken was kind of fatty. Slimy, even. Hmm, let me check the nutrition label. A 3-ounce serving has 160 calories, 60 from fat. It has 20g protein, 7g fat (2g saturated) and 2g carbs. That doesn't sound bad.
