Movies and Mosquitos
Aug. 26th, 2007 07:59 pm"Mirror Mask" is a good movie, with mostly new actors but with Neil Gaiman writing and Dave McKean drawing and directing. Plot: Creative teenager re-evaluates her life. You get sock puppets, juggling, and a long dream sequence that seems a lot like real dreaming only it makes more sense. It reminds me of "The Wizard of Oz" (a strange land teaches you there's no place like home) but the writer said he was inspired by "The Prince and the Pauper" (two kids trade places).
"U-turn" is a well-made movie with great acting about a guy on a mission whose car breaks down near a small town. Will he complete his mission? Do you want him to? Which bad guys are the baddest? Who's telling the truth? Who finds true love? Not my kind of movie, though: My favorite character shoots people in the back with a shotgun.
Gardening scorecard:
* weeds - 0
* mosquitos - 1
* Debbie - 0
Must remember: spray down with bug spray, put hair up, and wear sweatband; then garden; then take a bite of peanut butter and take a shower.
