R's friends who were going to visit us on their way home this weekend decided to just drive straight through instead. We had totally kid- and grown-up-friendly ideas, too! Oh, well.

Instead we worked on the yard. I may be almost recovered from my cold, certainly recovered enough to deal with going to work. But yard work totally took it out of me.

In the middle of doing yard work we went to Home Depot for a chain saw. And I got talked into signing up for two credit cards. They had some good deals, and I didn't know there were two different versions and so accidentally signed up for the no-interest-for-twelve-months version when I wanted the points version, but it was too late because the lady had already dropped the application in the locked box.

I will probably cancel one or both of these cards later, but on the other hand being a homeowner does make Home Depot cards handy.

Then we went to our local dump, which I've never done before. They don't call it a dump, they call it a landfill. And better yet, they call it a Citizens' Convenience Center and Recycling & Resale Center.

Yeah, we just wanted to do some sightseeing. It's in an exotic land called Buda (pronounced BYOU-dah, not Buddha) with beautiful green rolling hills.

Also we had some old trashed doors and other wood remnants that we didn't want any more. And that our neighbors didn't want us to have anymore. Also lots of cardboard boxes.

I didn't actually see the landfill. They have it set up so you can back your vehicle to a drop-off below which is a big dumpster and you can just slide things out of the back of your truck into the dumpster. In the unloading parking spot next to us, the incredible hulk, standing in the back of his pick-up truck, lifted his box spring over his head on the way to the dumpster.

Nearby is an area where they store things that can be recycled and which apparently are for sale.

Then we ate at Furr's Cafeteria. I never thought that name sounded particularly appetizing because I couldn't help thinking of furry food. (Of course that was before I saw "Ratatouille.") But actually it's just fine. For $8, you get all you can eat (unlike, say, at Luby's). I could only eat four things. I had some fried fish, which R. lovingly refers to as "square fish." This is one of their most popular items, crispy, thick, real fish, and always still hot and crunchy. Often the tray is empty when you go through the line.

I also had spaghetti which was just fine, and chocolate pie which was made with good chocolate pudding, not the adequate pudding that comes from #10 (very large) cans.

I also asked for the mashed sweet potatoes. "This? This is carrot casserole." Hmm, vitamin A dusted in powdered sugar? Sounds good. "Okay, I'll try some."

It was interesting. It tasted like bread pudding with carrots. R says it tasted like carrot pudding. It was good. I had it for second dessert.
