Fruit Pops

I called in sick today. I think last night and this morning were the worst of this cold I have. I hope so, anyway, and expect to return to work tomorrow.

Meanwhile I interspersed napping with cleaning and playing all day. Also I went grocery shopping.

I decided to buy fruit popsicles. To help coerce myself to stay hydrated in this heat. Because sometimes drinking fluids just doesn't sound very fun.

I couldn't find any that were all fruit juice, though. I did find some that were 90% fruit juice. All three flavors (grape, cherry, orange) were made of apple juice, high-fructose corn syrup, flavors, colors, vitamin C, etc. Uh, no.

I settled for some made with strawberries, water, and regular sugar. And all the vitamin C came from the actual fruit.

I also bought two cans of tamales and did a taste test between them, but that's disgusting, so you don't want to hear about that, right? Because tamales do not come in a can!

(I'm allowing it on the don't-let-myself-go-to-McDonald's diet. Surely canned tamales, canned refried black beans, and way too much regular-fat cheese is better that a 99-cent double cheeseburger and small fries. More fiber!)

Here's another interesting comparison: one onion cost twice as much as a bunch of five smallish bananas. I always thought onions were cheap. But I guess they are very heavy. Note to self: must feel guilty if I let the onion go bad.
