Ultimate and Cheese
May. 13th, 2007 09:43 pmFive-on-five ultimate, my favorite. Except for the part where I can't run. I was actually thinking to myself that I suck too much for this game, but then I realized that I was getting open a lot, so other people aren't all fabulous runners either, so maybe I belong after all.
I made some good catches, though if I could have stepped back one more step before one of the catches, that would have been nice because it would have meant a point instead of a prelude to a turnover. One thing I learned from that same turnover is not to throw the disc in front of this one guy. Instead I should throw it so far beyond him that no normal person could ever get to it. Then I'll be less likely to hurt him by making him come to a screeching halt and back up!
I also blocked a throw from the guy I was guarding. It was very exciting. It was also very exciting when he caught it again. I had blocked it right back into his hands.
It's so hot already, it was difficult to deal with, and I'm already using most of my strategies. I had my sunscreen, my headband, t-shirt, shorts, and water. I'm not sure how to wear a hat and a headband at the same time, but a head covering will become necessary very soon. At summer camp, some people would tuck a washcloth under a headband in a goofy Bedouin sort of way because we had a rule that you couldn't go canoeing without some kind of head covering or your little brains would fry away, and it's so true.
Another strategy: leave the water jug by the cones so you can get a drink between points without having to go all the way back to where people normally keep their stuff.
Another strategy: I'm going to start freezing my water again. You have to leave some air at the top so the water can expand without breaking the container. Then outside in the heat, it melts very quickly. The extra cold is my last strategy.

Today we went to Castle Hill, which is cheaper at lunch than at dinner but is only open for lunch on weekends for special occasions such as graduation. Today, however, didn't go exactly according to plan. There was a fixed price Mother's Day menu so we were forced to have appetizers and dessert.
I barely resisted the urge to have cheese for all three. Instead of the fried goat cheese appetizer, I had a salad. But I still had the pasta and chicken with cheese sauce and the white chocolate almond cheesecake.
