I laughed again several times during the last seventy pages of Nick Hornby's A Long Way Down. It could be just coincidence that I was waiting for the bus during the bad parts, but I doubt it.
The plot really is not a driving force, at least not the exterior plot. The interior plots are slow-moving. But the writing and dialog is great. So I recommend not reading it when you're agitated or in the mood for a quick read, but waiting until you can have time to savor it.
