More Ultimate Frisbee Testing
May. 21st, 2007 11:02 pmPlaying ultimate yesterday, I learned that headband + hat = hat falls off.
I learned that if I set my water next to a cone, I still don't drink it. At least not when it's cloudy and breezy like yesterday. I'm going to keep doing that anyway.
I also tried to refrain from sticking a leg (of mine) up in the air to try to block a throw (of someone else's) in case that's what's been making the backs of my legs ache the next day, even though of course trying to run is what's been making them hurt. However, today, the backs of my legs aren't aching that much. I did remember to have a big spoon of yogurt (protein + sugar) as soon as I got home for once, so maybe that's the explanation. Still, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to stretch the backs of my legs daily. Because I like using that extra limb to try to block throws.
I had been thinking that I should braid my hair (and put an elastic band around it at the bottom) as well as sticking it in a ponytail, because running around undoes everything that isn't tied down. Headband + barrette + ponytail + braid works and keeps my hair off my neck as well as out of my face.
And I tried a new sunscreen, which worked. It all started when I read in Prevention's "A Sunscreen Love Affair" that you should put on sunscreen every day even under your clothes. Yeah, right. But they also said that spray-on sunscreens were quicker to apply than lotions. I decided to google fragrance-free sunscreen. Based on the results and the article, I decided I would like to try Kinesys Fragrance-free SPF 30+ Sunscreen Spray. It's also water resistant and has one of the good UVA protectors (avobenzone) (plus octorylene to keep it from degrading quickly in light!).
This product costs $15 (plus shipping) for the 4-oz bottle everywhere on the web, and is also available mostly at bicycle shops but also at Whole Earth, which is walking distance from my job. My Whole Earth had a ridiculously low sale price on theirs ($2) which I pointed out must be a mistake. It was. So I refused to take it at that price, but I did accept a 10% discount (for finding the mistake) on their already relatively low $13 price, so that was good.
It still has an odor to it, but it's not strong. It is, indeed, much quicker to apply than lotions, so I think I will use it more often, though perhaps not daily. Maybe daily on my arms and the backs of my hands.
