Galveston Culture
Mar. 28th, 2007 08:40 pmIt's fun when you are in a totally alien culture to look around and notice things. Here are things I have seen and heard about Galveston that I have not seen or heard about my town.
I went to "the cheapest grocery store" today and there I found the following exotic items:
* large jugs of wine for just twelve bucks
* beach towels that were both cheap and thin
* cups with the straws built into them
* bowls with straws built into them
* very large marshmallows in packages containing both pink and white marshmallows
I heard that a lot of poor people live here because of free medical care from the University of Texas Medical Branch.
I heard that there was a small car advisory today. This does not mean to be on the lookout for dangerous small cars. It means that drivers of small cars should be careful because of very strong winds.
If you are wise, you will now take all these things I have "learned" and erase them from your memory.
