I am not into football, especially as a spectator sport, but I did go to two Superbowl parties today.

At the first party, we watched a national smooth American ballroom dance competition that had been saved. I got to see a guy from my earliest classes (and his partner) win third place in the four-dance competition and first in the showcase dance competition. For the latter they had some kind of Asian martial arts tango thing going on.

And I got to learn that I am very, very happy with where I am currently living. The party was in Pflugerville (the "P" is either silent or mostly silent) which used to be a small town but is now also a large suburb. It takes ten or fifteen minutes to get from that house to the freeway and vice versa and that part of the freeway isn't exactly one of the more convenient sections. There's nothing much in that suburb as far as I can see but houses, grocery stores, and a golf course. Our host loves golf and lives in walking distance of a golf course, which is great, but R. and I never want to live anywhere like that. We both like our borderline dangerous neighborhood better than his brand-new giant affordable house neighborhood. It's because of people like this that people like me can afford to live in town at all.

At my second Superbowl party I learned that 1) violence is funny and 2) you can play electric guitar in the rain. I'm going to continue to live my life as if I hadn't learned these things, however.

I also learned that if we are free on Thursdays, we should go the Austin Swing Syndicate's weekly lesson and dance. The instructors there have improved greatly after all their years of practice teaching since I last tried them.

We also decided to start playing pick-up ultimate frisbee games on Sunday mornings at 10:00. It will be even less competitive than the winter league was so we get to handle the disc more and thus learn more.

I got delicious cookies from my blog buddy--freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I love those things! I also had three other surprisingly delicious cookies. There were some finely flavored thumbprint cookies. These are sugar cookies with a big chocolate kiss in the middle, but the sugar cookie part was extra delicious. There was a nicely textured cookie with chocolate icing that had an almond flavor to it. And there were spelt chocolate cookies with actual fiber and protein in them but were also delicious.

I got to talk about writing, utilikilts, working at high-stakes jobs where a mistake can be life-threatening to somebody, techniques for improving ultimate frisbee playing, ballroom dance movies, and job hunting and recruiting strategies.

I have no idea who won the game or even whether anyone got any points.

P.S. LiveJournal's extremely mediocre spell checker recommends that instead of using the non-word "spelt," I might prefer to use the actual word "splat." Hee hee. Splat flour.
