I read some interesting journals today, including an amazing story of how someone got out of debt. First find out how Violent Acres got into debt (see paragraphs 3 - 7 at least). Then read how she got out.

Two things struck me. 1) She calculated it would take 24 years to get out of debt. 2) She went homeless (though not carless) instead and got out in 3 months. That is amazing.

I once thought about living out of my car when I was in undergrad. I could just park in one of the parking lots. I could keep nonperishables in the front seat, books on the floor of the back seat, and clothes on the back seat. The closest I ever came was going carless but not homeless.

Now I'm not very seriously wondering if going homeless for a while could make me ready to retire in 3 months.

Today I got out of the house and walked to a grocery store that's about a mile and a half away. The temperature was just rising above freezing, so I probably got to see the full effect of ice and icicles. The streets I was on were clear, but ice was coating dainty things like blades of grass, tree branches, yucca plants, and cars.

There was one bridge on my route. The street was clear, but the sidewalks and bike lanes were iced over. I quite appreciated the (iced over) hand railings. Other parts of the side walk were icy--parts where dainty ice-covered grass was growing through the cracks, parts that were over storm drain holes, and a couple of other parts for which I could never discern a reason. In other words, it was not a good idea to get cocky.

I bought some bread and milk. Also some nice looking granola that was priced very well. Also a rather large chocolate chip cookie from the bakery which I heated at home and had with a large glass of milk.

R. went to work today and saw some ice on overpasses but didn't have too much trouble. On the way back, he saw about 15 accidents, all single-vehicle accidents involving SUVs and the right-hand side railing. Apparently you can feel very secure driving an SUV until suddenly you don't.

I get two more hours of ice day tomorrow. My job has some totally awesome perks. I wonder if I will feel warm in my 68-degree office after being in a 60-degree house for so long.
