The Fastest Indian
Jan. 7th, 2007 10:53 pmYesterday we watched the movie "The Fastest Indian." At first I didn't like the character. He deliberately sets his alarm so he can wake up before the crack of dawn to start revving his motorcycle, even though he has very close neighbors.
This movie is based on a true story. It seems like they tried really hard to show you what it took to break the speed record for motorcycles. R. and I came up with the following:
* a love for speed
* a deep understanding of mechanical/physics concepts
* very good mechanical skills
* no fear of dying (he felt he was dying soon anyway, and putting death off a bit was less important than going for his goals)
* social skills, specifically respecting all kinds of people and telling strangers intriguing details about himself
Who knew that social skills would be vitally important to breaking the speed record? But they were.
It's mostly a character description movie but also has plenty of suspense and a plot.
