We're now officially going to Disney World. We have some package with airline tickets, ten-day passes and relatively cheap on-site hotel. R. went for the an hotel with good service rather than the pretty hotel with bad service. Excellent choice. (We won't need any car rental.) So that comes out to just over $1000 each. Not too bad for such a fancy vacation.

We did not get the food deal, though. We are hoping to feed ourselves more cheaply ourselves. We'll eat exciting, exotic lunches. But then we're thinking of some kind of nonrefrigerable snack foods for breakfast and/or supper. One of us is thinking snack bars and bagels. One of us is thinking canned seafood and crackers. Laughing Cow cheese would also be good.

We're leaving November 6th and returning the 15th. So R. won't lose any vacation time when it expires at the first of December.

I requested information a while back and we received in the mail a promotional DVD which we finally watched recently. I have to say this might be the worst piece of advertising I've ever seen. If I hadn't been to Disney World as an adult, I would have concluded from this video that it wouldn't be much fun, certainly not worth the price of admission. It even made me wonder for a while whether I had misremembered how good it was. But then I remembered that I had been pretty poor at the the time and had felt it was definitely worth paying double the cost of a regular amusement park like Six Flags and that those guys really know what to do with large quantities of money (except at the restaurants we went to), and I definitely was not easy to impress back then.

How could a video be so bad? First they had several characters describing things to us, all of whom were obnoxious in their own special ways. And they talked about themselves and each other more than they talked about the park, at least at first. Then the camera spent a lot of time on these people and only tiny amounts of time on the actual activities. So tiny, I often couldn't even parse what was going on. And I couldn't tell which things were real, and which were special effects. So sad.

We decided to go anyway.
