If you ever want a little break from your healthy routine of good eating and good exercise, you should give blood. After doing that you are not allowed to do good exercise and you have to eat heartily. For your own health!

**

I gave blood yesterday and for the first time I actually felt light-headed the rest of the day. Sauntering to the car was an aerobic activity. Fortunately, Robin was driving.

I had plenty of food and fluids, but I still didn't feel like moving around much. You're not supposed to do anything strenuous or do any heavy lifting for a while, but in the past, that's always been something I've had to remind myself, whereas this time it was pretty obvious.

So I feel like I should be learning a lesson from this on what never to do again. But what is the lesson? I think the lesson is to never give blood on the last day of my period because I just really shouldn't be losing that much blood all at one time.

I know I haven't given blood during my period for a long while because I've been rejected for having too low a hematocrit in the past and I haven't wanted to risk another rejection. But the blood center called and said they were in critical need and so Robin made an appointment for us.

But maybe my lesson is that I really need to sit nestled between the cookies and juice for the full twenty minutes afterwards. I didn't this time because the sweet little old lady who pours your drink for you basically made us want to run away screaming with her repeated bad story that you had to laugh at or she would keep explaining it until you did. And with her telling us we should go do things like look at the pictures in the next room. Finally I quietly told Robin, "I think I can recover better in your truck." But to get to the truck, we had to walk to the far end of the building, then across the parking lot, then past the building with the Chipotle Mexican Grill and the Starbucks in it. This is where I learned that sauntering had become aerobic.

But I think that the recovery period is just so you don't faint right then. And they want to get fluids and calories into you right away, which they did. So I think the first lesson is the one I am going to teach myself.
