I stayed home from work today because I already had permission for the day off and they didn't need me a third day at my other job and I wanted to get some stuff done. Specifically, I wanted to organize my papers.

I started by getting up with Robin.

Then I decided I should do some weeding, since the ground is all full of water. And I decided I should do it early, while it was still cool. Which turned out to be 80 degrees (27C).

There were hardly any weeds in my rose garden! I fully expected to pull my usual 100+ weeds there. So I cleared out as much beggar's lice as I could from my side yard, the neighbor's adjacent side yard, and the back yard. That took forty minutes, and I was plenty sweaty, so I went in.

Meanwhile, a guy with a chain saw had finished breaking up the tree that had fallen on my neighbor's car. I brought him and the lady with him a drink of water. Only the man had some. Woo hoo! Good turn for the day!

Then I had some peanut butter and rubbed my skin with ammonia, which is what After Bite is made of. Except that Robin thinks regular ammonia is harsher. I don't know. So I hope to prevent aching and itching.

Then it was time to tackle the file cabinets. I switched mine and Robin's so both would be closer to our own stuff. This involved moving everything out of the cabinets into the bedroom, clearing a path, and switching the cabinets. Don't you hate when you're in the middle of a project like this and suddenly you're tired and don't feel like continuing, but the place is completely unlivable, so you just have to suck it up and finish?

Which I did. Whew!

I also did laundry, dishes, playing on the web, lunch, second lunch, sorting through the mail, and cleaning a trash can.

It was a good day. I relaxed, had some fun, and got stuff done. Now I get dinner, fun with Robin, and ballroom dance lessons.

I forgot to mention that I reorganized the spice rack. It used to be purely alphabetical, but it was still surprisingly difficult to lay one's hands on the wanted spices.

So I split them into different categories. First sweet (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, vanilla, etc.) versus savory.

Within savory, there's peppers (chipotle, chile, Mrs. Dash, etc.), leaves (basil, oregano, thyme, bay, etc.) and, uh, seeds and bulbs (onion powder, garlic powder, dry mustard, cumin, etc.)

It was surprisingly easily to choose categories and fit everything into one of them. I told Robin there might be some confusing things, like cloves are in the sweet category, even though you can also use them in savory dishes. He responded that he expected those to be in the sweet category.

So maybe this new arrangement will be better.
