Me too. I've decided that by the time we're finally grown-ups and can do these things, we've already been brainwashed. These secret hiding places are: impractical, expensive, dangerous (well, trap doors are dangerous). I don't even know how to design a revolving bookcase (my personal favorite).

I'd love to have a whole extra underground room accessible via a hatch in the floor. It's practical, too--good to be in during tornados, especially if your house is a trailer house. Also good for hiding people during wars.

I've noticed that lots of times there'll be closets between two bedrooms, one for each bedroom, and thought it would be cool to have a door between those two closets. If bad guys came in, you could hide in the closet, and even if they saw you go in, you could still sneak out. Also, if you're a kid, and your sibling is in the other room, and you've each been sent to your rooms as a punishment, you can still play together. Quietly, of course.

I'd also like a climbing wall. If it were outside, I could escape bad guys by knowing where all the good hand holds are and then hiding on the roof.

I never actually have bad guys come after me (so far). But, you know, as a grown-up, I enjoy thinking up practical reasons for these things.

I've seen telephones in those Virginal alcoves before. And heretical items, like Elvis dolls. I like plants in those, too.
