So, I've already written that after seeing the line-up of topics for the professional development day and seeing that mine wasn't on there, I jumped to the conclusion that I would not be presenting. The other topics sound interesting, so I turned in the form to attend.

This morning I got an e-mail saying they were pleased to let me present. Then later I got another group e-mail with a new list of topics which did include mine. There were also maybe five other additional topics, and a couple of missing topics (although some seem to have changed their titles a bit, so I'm not sure).

Maybe they were hoping for someone better? Or realized they could reserve an additional room? I am so totally out of the loop. I do have the last slot in the day, which I've learned is generally considered the least desirable slot because people tend to leave conferences early, so you don't get as many people attending.

I don't care, I'm looking forward to this. So long as at least one person comes. (Like if I throw a party and only one person comes and I like that person, that's infinitely better than no one coming, and most likely better than not having thrown the party, especially if I've been missing that person.) People will break up into brainstorming groups and then share their results, and I might get some good ideas. (If only one person comes, then we'd just have our own brainstorming group of two, of course.)

Meanwhile, I got to go track down that form because presenters get to attend for free. I get to attend for free anyway because my department's paying, but now I get to save them that fee.

Congrats! And let's hope that when you finally GET to the professional development day your name and topic appear somewhere. Maybe you can send out your own email. Or hang flyers. Or send up flares? Do an interpretive dance? :-)

Congratulations! I'm glad it's worked out that you'll get to do the presentation. Hope it goes really well.
