Today was mostly about food. We ate. We shopped for food. Three times. We refilled the water bottles. We cooked. And washed dishes. And stuffed more things in the refrigerator and freezer.

I noticed that the unusual kinds of baking chips are on clearance at HEB: the white chocolate and peanut butter/chocolate, that sort of thing. Also, one of the brands of baking chocolate was on clearance. So I got four bars of baking chocolate and a bag of mint chocolate chips.

We also practiced ballroom dancing a bit to get ready for tonight's festivities with the Austin Ballroom Dancers. The dance will be alcohol-free, as usual, even on New Year's Eve, though there will be sparkling cider at midnight. We'll probably leave early for a safer drive back home, though.

I felt sleepy a lot, so I spent some time in bed reading over my first issue of Tech Trends, which sounds like a Robin rag, but is really for people in that professional association I joined of which I can't remember the name. The issue is all about gaming and how to use games in educational settings. Most of the text is trying to convince me that playing video games requires learning, and that most people find them to be engaging. Duh. So far I've seen only one reference to the issue that educational games tend to suck, loudly, and that fun games don't generally address curriculum issues, at least not in any efficient sort of way. (The one mention of this problem said that people making educational games try too hard to keep costs down, so they have trouble doing anything fun.)

In other news, my pansies did perk up overnight. Woo hoo! Now if I can just remember to water them regularly, they'll stay perked up. I love pansies; they come in the most wonderful intense colors.
