Post retirement, I have been doing the same! I really thought I needed 8 hours of sleep, was fine with 7, could deal with 6 for a few days, and less was terrible. But also 10 hours of sleep is good. And apparently I wish days were 25 or 26 hours--when I sleep whenever I want, the bedtime and wake-up time get later and later.
