Today we went to Deutschen Pfest which, as you might guess, is a German festival set in Pflugerville.

The weather was shockingly nice--warm and sunny, but breezy (with lots of shade). The parking was at Pflugerville High School with shuttle buses--that was very well organized.

Once we got to the festival, we each spent some extra money on some of the German-themed goodies. I tried some deep-fried brownies. Robin got some Tupperware.

Sadly, it turned out to be mostly just Generic Fest. A bunch of festival food people were there. A bunch of craftspeople were there. There were some rides and face painting. Plus the all-too-common weird stuff like a political candidate's staff handing out free water.

In fact, I saw only three German-based things: a sausage stand (with many kinds of sausages), a stand with other German foods like a sweet bread and a chicken cutlet, and the music was all German. When we got there, for example, Oma and the Oompas were playing.

The best part might have been the petting farm. There were some very cute baby pigs, goats, donkeys, sheep, and a bunny in addition to farm animals I've seen more often.

There were also very nice people giving out samples of their foods and talking up their wares. Also, the bus driver was great.

The worst part was probably the lady trying to talk to me about how awesome her company's windows were. Let's just say that sometimes making assumptions about the people you're talking to doesn't work out for you. I was shown how nice it is that you can open the windows a little to get some air while still having them locked in place, which is handy when you have grandchildren running around. And I was shown how easy it is to get to the outside of the window, which is handy when you're the one washing all the windows because you're the woman (or something). Anyway, I don't have grandchildren or even pets, and I actually think it's easier to wash the outside of the windows than the inside because there's less furniture in the way.

Overall, a basically pleasant but very short outing, and this will not be something we do every year.
