Well, it sounds like what knitting you do does end up looking good! Sometimes when I see I have too many stitches, I just knit 2 together instead of finding and fixing my mistake. Because two wrongs can make a right, sort of.
Tinking is not my favorite, but it beats pulling everything out and starting over and, when you do it right, it even beats pulling some of the row out and then sliding the needle back in and then turning each stitch around as you get to it.
I did actually finally learn to tink such that the remaining stitches were twisted the correct way. Unpurling (is there a word for that? "Lrupping" seems not easily pronouncable) has always been easier for me. (I guess if you can ignore the "k" when pronouncing "knit," you could also ignore the "l" when pronouncing "lrup.")
