Too Much TV
Jul. 26th, 2009 11:03 pmI have a goal to try out at least one new (to me) TV show each year. This is an area where we just go with recommendations from friends.
I have now achieved this goal seven times, viewing the sixth and seventh new show today. We are now in danger of watching too much TV, just like regular people. Oh well.
* "Dollhouse" - Slow, though interesting at first, then gets much more dense. Keeper.
* "Robin Hood" - We only made it through the first few episodes. Everyone seemed too dumb and the bad guy is too horrible.
* "Castle" - It's okay that they like each other but never get together because "she's not an idiot." Yep, colorful interesting characters. Keeper.
* "So You Think You Can Dance" - we watched several of these--the dancers are really good, the routines are quite fun, and there's a lot less boring blabbing than I feared, but one of the judges is really annoying.
* "The Big Bang Theory" - We've only seen a few episodes so far. It's great fun hearing all the nerdspeak. If any of the characters grow and change, that will be good, but if not, ugh.
* "Lost" - We saw the first three episodes today. I know this is very addictive and they string you along (which really annoyed me with "Twin Peaks")--don't know how well this will stick yet.
* "Bones" - We saw the first three episodes of this today also. Basically enjoyable--we heard it goes downhill later, but we're up for some more episodes.
So far, the winner is "Dollhouse." We may get sucked more deeply into others in the future.
Old favorites that are currently not just in re-runs are "True Blood" and "Burn Notice." They both have so much stuff going on in each episode and I never know what's going on next. I enjoy favorite TV like this better than movies because the chance of enjoying it is greater. Of course, the chance of enjoying a new TV show is no greater than the chance of enjoying a new movie. But all this TV means we are watching fewer movies lately.
