Today I got my first bill with my new long distance provider.

I was hoping that with the lower fee and lower per-minute charge I would end up with a lower bill. I am happy to say that my plan worked. All the fees and surcharges add up to less this month than last month even though I actually made a call and even though they added a pro-rated charge for part of a cycle. This month was $6 cheaper and most months will be $8 cheaper, though not quite as low when I make longer calls.

I'm not exactly sure how I got charged for part of a cycle. I timed my request for the end of a cycle and seem to have succeeded perfectly: my last bill did not have the new company and this bill did not have the old company. On the other hand, they charged me a long-distance provider changing fee of $0. And it's only one month of slime instead of slime every month like my last provider.

Probably I should call to ask them to waive that fee in case someone is keeping statistics on whether anyone cares about it. The fee is only $2.27 and thus not worth my time otherwise, but that's an awfully big percentage of the monthly $4 fee for seemingly applying to zero days of the month.

Blog entry of the day - The Sneeze tells you a theory about How to Tell If Your State Sucks - "What's nice about this theory is that as states update their tourism websites, they can fall in and out of suckfullness."

Video of the day - On the other hand, Louis CK explains to Conan O'Brien how Everything is amazing right now, and nobody's happy. My favorite part - "People say there's delays on flights.... New York to California in five hours. That used to take thirty years to do that. And a bunch of you would die on the way there. And have a baby. You'd be a whole different group of people by the time you got there."
