World-building Exercises

livingdebI found a thirty-day set of exercises for world-building intended to be used in preparation for National Novel Writing Month.
One might argue that world-building exercises are the last thing I need since I'm planning to set my novel in a city I've now lived in for over half my life, and it's a city that, if anything, is already overbuilt.
However, I expect I can adapt the exercises to help me look at my story with a broader perspective. So I'm going to try some of these out.
In other news, it's still pretty hot around here. It was ninety-seven degrees at 2:45 according to some billboard. I'm so used to the summer weather that I can actually feel chilled at seventy-nine degrees (if I'm just sitting or lying down). Still, it's awfully hard to be out in the sun.
