Where I work, the trash and recycling is taken out of offices once a week: Wednesday evenings. So I've decided that Wednesday is a good day to do clean up at my desk. And not only did I decide this, I actually started today. I got a respectable volume of paper into the recycling bin. And it felt sort of like playing hooky from my real work.

One thing about a clean-up is that it forces me to look at papers that have gotten covered with later tasks. Today I found some tasks I'd been putting off and got them done, which feels good. I think doing this weekly is a very good idea.

I also cleaned up a month's worth of e-mail. This has nothing to do with recycle bins or trash receptacles, but was in the spirit.

I also made a new file, so now I have a place for another category of items. You'll be reading all about that in your morning paper tomorrow, I'm sure. (That is my little joke, so you don't feel so bad about wasting precious seconds of your life reading that boring sentence.)

Wait, I don't need to make excuses. It is good to celebrate the small victories. And I am victorious over that category of items. I have shown them who is boss. I have put them in their place. They will think twice before, um, lying recklessly across my desk next time. No, they will have no time to think before they are scooped up and mercilessly stashed into their little file folder. Mwahahaha!

I have the power! I am the Information Analyst!

The Information Analyst perhaps should think about going to bed now.
